Sterling Silver, Synthetic Sapphire

Ring - Locket

40 x 60 x 35 mm

2016

This is the first locket I made, and a good lesson in design. It was a lesson on how important it is to plan all solders ahead and proceed in the right order, so as to prevent elements from slipping around and falling off. Soldering this was messy, but I learnt a lot from it.

This ring features a sterling silver triangular box which hinges and catches right under the lid. The texture on the interior was stamped in with a straight chasing tool, and inspired by the embossed metal flooring by the soldering station in NSCAD's jewellery studio. On top is a bezel set deep blue synthetic sapphire. The box sits on a silver band embellished with straight wire lines
