This locket was designed with bobby pins in mind. It serves as both an accessory and a practical compartment to hold the often needed and easily lost pins. It opens up with five long hinges on its side, and latches shut on the inside with tabs on the top and bottom. The pattern on the front, bottom, and inside of the box was etched in using a nail polish resist in an acid bath. The gold is applied using a Korean technique called keum-boo, where the silver is lightly heated then the thin gold sheet rubbed on, creating a molecular bond between the two metals. The pendant sits at around waist-level, supported by chain links alternate between ovals and rounded diamonds.
