Pendulum
Sterling Silver, Amethyst
Pendant
68 x 20 x 20 mm
2016

I began this piece by first making the body and the lid. which were left on my bench while I worked on other things. I was trying to think up something crazy and artistic, then realized something just simply pretty could be the right thing for the pieces.

Two hexagonal rings wrap around the top of the locket, while a forward-facing hexagon serves as a bail. At the corners of the bail are two tubes through which the chain hooks, keeping the necklace properly positioned on the body. Within the bail at the top of the prism is set an amethyst cabochon. This piece is not obviously a locket as the catch is hidden inside. With the help of three little studs for grip, the lid opens up at the bottom to reveal a long and thin compartment. The locket falls above the waist, and is kept together by a hexagonal toggle clasp.
